I explore magic within the mundane
Here are a selection of pots and brooches I have made from common earthenware clay.
My pots are usable, I like to think of people creating happenings, celebrations, liminal moments, ritual acts using the pots. To me, pots are symbolic people. My pots have been on journeys with me, on the bus, in the car, carried in buckets in the streets. They rest in studios and at home, get put in to red hot kilns, waiting for their little bits of attention, getting a few knocks and bumps along the way. They are all individuals, their personalities shine though.
I EXIST, RIOT, GIT, WASSAIL, OBEY, FAKE, Real, HEATHEN, COMMON, HAPPENING, Gathering, REBEL
I am a founding member of the Neo Naturists performance art collective, along with Wilma Johnson and Jennifer Binnie. Formed in the early 80s we used our painted naked bodies, domestic items, found objects, and art works, to create colourful, meaningful performances which challenged narratives of the time.
Work from The Neo Naturist Archive is to be shown at Tate Britain 2023 and Barbican 2023
