Gavin Dobson is a contemporary artist based in London, creating limited edition screen-prints, alongside original oil paintings on canvas. Gavins screen prints are a celebration of the chosen object itself, infused with a sense of nostalgia and situation, They’re bold and colourful and hopefully invite an opening for conversation.
In recent years, Gavin’s painting practice has explored homosexuality and the various subcultures which surround it, as well as looking into the expectations and stereotypes which gay men face, and how in turn this can effect ones mental health. His paintings are often loose and expressive tackling the emotional highs and lows of being a gay man in contemporary Britain.
Recent exhibitions include ING Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries, Queer Frontier’s with Artiq, Louder and Prouder at The Brunswick Gallery, The Other Art Fair and Contemporary British Painting at the Bermondsey Project Space. Several of Gavin’s paintings are currently on display at The Hoxton Hotel in Southwark in conjunction with Saatchi.
