LAST CHANCE TO GET YOUR SUNNY SIDE UP!

The Art Car Boot Fair’s favourite bird The Capitalist Hen has laid her last egg! 

Her ceramic fried egg project is drawing to a close with a whopping 101 dozen ceramic fried eggs gracing the walls and shelves of so many of us. If you haven’t got your beautifully made ceramic fried egg yet then this is your very last chance! Only 1236 ever made, and of course each one is unique.

Why stop at 101 dozen? One aim, according to Holly English (aka The Capitalist Hen) was to beat the record currently held by a chicken called Cornell Endurance who's been dead a whole century and laid an astonishing 1232 eggs in her lifetime! 

Holly English says:  'Thank you to everyone who has shared their love of eggs with me, lord knows there are a lot of you! I've enjoyed all of your eggy puns and stories, they warm my tail feathers, truly, all of them. It was always a temporary life-giving version of my practice when I was in the throes of early motherhood. A hen capitalising on her reproductive work in order to draw a wage, it seemed a no-brainer to me…

Though the series had always been open ended, the project came to be indispensable to me as a new mother and addressed so much of what I was moving through. It is synonymous with that chapter. Now that my daughter is in nursery my brain can hold other thoughts and it is lamenting on thinking. I worry about how pleasant it would be to keep making eggs. I am so grateful to everyone who has enabled the Capitalist Hen but I know I am ready for the next bit….

 To me that glossy geometric yellow circle juxtaposing a stark white, organic backdrop is undeniably striking - it's perfect. Very modernist too, decor wise. I've recently painted my bedroom floor yolk coloured and it makes my eyes so happy!’
