Landing by Kate Knight
Artist Kate Knight has created a stunning and magical watercolour and diamond dust series for the Art Car Boot Fair November/December Edit. Read the story behind this new body of work here.
Around 2012 I was invited to look over a deceased artist’s supplies, to check if there was anything that could still be of use to others. I was lucky enough to be gifted a few incredibly precious items.
Old boxes of pigments
Amongst the supplies, I came across a small flat box that once contained ladies surgical stockings. I could see from the outside that something fine and glistening sighed from within. As I tentatively opened the lid, inside was a diamond dust like substance. The dust smothered sachets contained bronze, copper, silver and gold pigments, as well as, a beautiful corked bottle containing the sediment remains of a thick golden liquid. It felt like what I was actually being gifted, was magic. Something to be honoured and taken seriously.
Space Invaders I by Kate Knight
I’ve held onto these sachets of pigment/powder until I felt the authenticity to use it. Last year I made a watercolour pan of the silver dust and this week I began to note its qualities and characteristics.
The series is titled ‘A Touching Distance’ and is available in the ACBFSHOP now
