TEARS

This series is an exploration of grief and joy. I consider how events leave an imprint but are intermingled with moments of joy and change (in all directions!).

After being in a catastrophic car crash in Colombia I have been working at a smaller scale and took comfort in using softer materials such as thread and clothing to collage together fragments of memories from before the crash, throughout the hospitalisation and afterwards. 

My sister had to deliver the news of my husband's death, the doctors had told her not to as it would be detrimental to my recovery following emergency surgery on my liver and bowels. My husband's family were arriving and my sister knew I would recognise their devastation. She told me in the most gentle way.

This image depicts being taken to see my husbands body and say goodbye, immediate family and Dr and nurses stood at the bottom of our beds. There was no privacy or private moment. I held my sister's hand to keep me anchored and tried to take in the reality. I tried not to cry but the tears flowed silently -for the love, the joy the sorrow.
