Monoprint on canvas with embroidered embellishment and acrylic.
This series is an exploration of grief and joy. I consider how events leave an imprint but are intermingled with moments of joy and change (in all directions!).

After being in a catastrophic car crash in Colombia I have been working at a smaller scale and took comfort in using softer materials such as thread and clothing to collage together fragments of memories from before the crash, throughout the hospitalisation and afterwards.
This image depicts the moment just before going in to emergency open chest surgery when I imagined all my friends as birds flying in a figure of 8, over my stomach and head. I thought if if I live, I will take flight with a friend a day and remember everything we have done together and that is what I did. All the memories and fun I have had with friends and family kept me going.
Monoprint on raw canvas reverse primmed, with embroidered embellishment and acrylic.
