I spent my entire youth terrified of nuclear war due in part to constant news coverage and also having parents who were very active within CND. I was given 'When the Wind Blows' to read when I was 11, and at 12 watched 'Threads', and didn't sleep again until 1990. If I ever got too anxious about details like where we'd build our fallout shelter, my mum would reassure me by saying, 'Oh it's fine! If the bomb drops we'll just drive to the counrtyside and it'll be over in seconds!', which didn't do much to assuage my fears. I've created this beautiful mushroom cloud plate in memory of those times. Pop it on your mid-century G-Plan sideboard and watch your friends and family marvel!
